In April 2010, two Glasgow-based artists, Gerry Loose and Morven Gregor, rowed a wee white boat, kindly lent by Maxwell MacLeod, along the canal from Grangemouth to the Clyde. The journey took 7 days, accompanied by the Peccadillo, on which they slept and ate.
Each day, the pair launched a wee sailboat named after a famous WW1 minesweeper and anyone finding one of these vessels will be rewarded with a prize if it is returned to the Collins Gallery!
Meanwhile, two multi-media artists, Ian Stephen and Emmanuelle Waeckerle, set sail on the El Vigo, crossing the top of Scotland from Stromness in Orkney to Stornoway in Lewis. The journey on boisterous seas took 42 hours.
Both journeys will provide the inspiration for a multi-facetted installation in the Collins Gallery, including film, photography, literature and poetry, from 21 August until 18 September.
Crossing Alba is supported by an illustrated publication.
